What is in the Act?
[edit]Is there a requirement for residency, Irish nationality?Wenckheim (talk) 23:38, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- Not sure yet, but it will be published here in full soon. Calen11 (talk) 22:04, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you! The Act can only contain what is in the Bill (with amendments) - right? I have read the Bill and amendments and the Explanatory Memorandum many times but I cannot find issues such as residency for non-Irish nationals dealt with. I am sure I am missing something. If one looks at the legislation in other countries, they either provide for a minimum period of residency etc (for example, England) or in the case of Scotland have no minimum residency requirement. Many of the provisions of the Act require either domicile in Ireland or 1 year residency in Ireland in some circumstances (e.g. when applying to a Court) but do not specifically say that this is required in order to contract a Civil Partnership in Ireland. it would be very helpful if a legal expert could analyze this and the other major constitutent parts of the legislation. If there is a domicile or long residence requirement, then most non-Irish will not be able to contract a Civil Partnership in Ireland.Wenckheim (talk) 16:17, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Importance
[edit]I see the statement that "This article has been rated as Low-importance". I wonder why this is so? This is a major human rights development and of interest to students, scholars and practitioners in the areas of public policy, human rights, and non-discrimination as well as in the legal sphere, and to others throughout the world. - I added the WikiProject Ireland and I set it at Low by default as it is a new article. I agree its an important area and I have moved the importance to Mid. For further changes, it needs to be assessed by those in the Ireland project who assess articles. Calen11 (talk) 22:04, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Same sex marriage in the Republic of Ireland
[edit]@Ron 1987: This article is clearly related to Same sex marriage in the Republic of Ireland and belongs in the category of same name. This article is referred to on numerous occasions in "Same sex marriage in the Republic of Ireland". It has also been included in "category:Same-sex union legislation". Plus explain this quote from second line "allows same-sex couples to enter into civil partnerships". Djln Djln (talk) 16:05, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
- Civil partnership and same-sex marriage are not the same thing, so the article does not belong to the same-sex marriage category. Ron 1987 (talk) 17:24, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
- Never said they were the same thing. They are however clearly and closely related issues and this article covers issues also covered in Same sex marriage in the Republic of Ireland. Djln Djln (talk) 17:37, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
